If there is a major, must see roadside attraction in Sioux City it is Trinity Heights. Home to what are clearly the most impressive 33 ft. Jesus and Mary statues that side of the Missouri River. As you can see by this photo, the size of the statue next to that of a human is fairly dramatic.

And look at the size of those toes.

Trinity Heights is very surreal place striding the line between a religious theme park and a roadside attraction. There is a sense of schlock about the place, although I imagine the gentleman who constructed these statues had a fervent belief although he did give Jesus some bug eyes:

The majority of Trinity Heights is designed for people of varying beliefs within Christianity to spend money on plaques. I know this because, to my surprise, I was given a golf cart guided tour of the property from the caretaker. Unbeknownst to myself, Trinity Heights is located on the on the grounds where Trinity High School once stood. This is were my Grandfather went to school, as well as the caretaker of Trinity Heights, who remain friends to this day. To make matters more interesting, I was later to find out that my Grandfather’s other good friend from Trinity High, Bill Hustead, managed the infamous roadside tourist trap Wall Drug in Wall, South Dakota. A sort of a roadside posse I guess.
Trinity Heights , which also boosts a life sized wood carving of the Last Supper and other curios can be viewed further in the Gallery.
Trinity Heights is located at: 2509 33rd St , Sioux City , IA
